EX Delta Species Set Guide
Released October 31, 2005 — the silver-border era gets weird in the best possible way.
Welcome Back to PokeFarm TCG
EX Delta Species is one of the most creative sets Pokémon has ever released. Familiar Pokémon suddenly appeared with completely different typings thanks to the mysterious Holon Research Tower experiments. Fire-type Dragonite, Electric-type Tyranitar, Psychic-type Mewtwo — this set completely changed how collectors looked at Pokémon cards.
Released on October 31, 2005, EX Delta Species arrived during the peak of the Game Boy Advance era. Pokémon Emerald had recently released, FireRed & LeafGreen were still massively popular, and the anime was deep into the Hoenn Battle Frontier storyline.
Even today, collectors still chase these cards heavily. I recently picked up both Dragonite delta species and this Latios delta species card for my collection, and even damaged copies are still desired because the artwork and uniqueness are so iconic.

The Delta Species Concept
The entire gimmick of EX Delta Species was built around Pokémon that had mysteriously changed typing due to experiments connected to the Holon region storyline. Instead of normal typings, collectors suddenly saw things like:
- Electric-type Tyranitar
- Metal-type Metagross
- Fire-type Dragonite
- Psychic-type Mewtwo
- Lightning-type Jolteon ex
At the time, these cards felt strange and experimental. Today, they feel incredibly nostalgic and unique compared to modern sets.

When Was EX Delta Species Printed?
EX Delta Species released on October 31, 2005. Pokémon does not usually publish official “stop printing” dates for older sets, but the set rotated off shelves as later EX-era expansions released through 2006.
Today, sealed EX Delta Species product is extremely difficult to find compared to modern Pokémon sets.
Sealed Products That Existed
- Booster packs
- Booster boxes
- Theme decks
- Blister packs
- EX Collector products
Modern collectors mainly encounter loose booster packs or occasionally sealed booster boxes at auctions or high-end card shows. Authentic sealed product is expensive and should be purchased carefully because weighed or tampered packs do exist in the vintage market.
The Biggest Chase Cards
The Eeveelution ex cards are some of the biggest collector magnets from the entire EX era.

Flareon ex, Jolteon ex, and Vaporeon ex remain incredibly popular because Eeveelutions consistently dominate collector demand. High-grade PSA copies have become very expensive, especially because EX-era silver border cards are notoriously difficult to grade.
Silver Border Cards Are Getting Bigger
Collectors are paying much closer attention to the EX era lately. Silver-border cards stand out immediately beside modern yellow borders and older Wizards-era cards. The lower print runs, tougher grading standards, and nostalgic artwork style have created strong demand.
Even lightly played or damaged EX-era cards can still carry strong value because surviving clean copies are becoming harder to find every year.
Damaged Cards Still Matter
One thing many newer collectors don’t realize is that damaged EX-era cards can still be highly collectible. Some people simply want a binder copy of their favorite Pokémon or favorite set.
I’m planning on experimenting with careful card restoration techniques on some personal collection cards where appropriate — not altering or faking cards, but carefully improving presentation and condition where possible. I’ll share results later once I finish testing.

“Even damaged Delta Species cards still belong in binders!”
Sleeper Cards To Watch
- Dragonite δ Delta Species — always popular with collectors
- Latios & Latias δ — legendary Pokémon continue rising
- Umbreon δ Species — Umbreon demand rarely slows down
- Stamped reverse holos — surprisingly hard to find clean
- Ditto transformation cards — unique and memorable collector pieces
- Holon Trainer cards — essential for true master set collectors
Anime, Games & Nostalgia
This set released during one of Pokémon’s strongest nostalgia eras for many collectors today. The anime was featuring the Battle Frontier arc, Pokémon Emerald had recently launched, and many players were still carrying Game Boy Advance systems everywhere.
That timing matters. The people who grew up opening EX Delta Species packs are now adults with spending power — and many are returning to complete the collections they never finished as kids.

Final Thoughts
EX Delta Species is one of the most creative and memorable Pokémon sets ever made. Between the strange typings, silver borders, stamped reverse holos, EX cards, and nostalgic Game Boy Advance-era connection, this set continues to grow in collector demand.
Whether your cards are mint, played, or heavily loved, Delta Species cards still feel special every time you flip through them in a binder.
